Will and Tony have been playing for 15 years in a variety of line ups, including Organ quartet and their Trio with legendary singer Norma Winstone. Tonight they meet as a duo for the first time. Featuring songs by Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Abdullah Ibrahim amongst others, this will be an evening of swinging, beautiful and soulful music.
WILL BARTLETT
Will Bartlett is a British Pianist who moved to Germany in 2018. He established himself at The Hampstead Jazz Club in 2013 and has been performing there ever since. Will studied music at St Peter’s College, Oxford, specialising in composition and musical analysis, as well as conducting the Oxford University Jazz Orchestra. From 2004 to 2018 he lived in London and completed an MA in Jazz Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he studied with Simon Purcell, John Taylor and Pete Churchill. He was awarded the BBC Big Band Most Promising Musician prize in 2003 and the Archer Scholarship at Trinity College of Music in 2005 and was pianist with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra from 2005 to 2008.
As a pianist and organist he has played with Stan Sulzmann, Claire Martin, Matt Ford, Jim Mullen, Alan Barnes, Anita Wardell, Shlomo, Keith Mansfield, the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, the Pasadena Roof Orchestra and the Manchester Camerata. He recently studied Hammond organ with Mike Le Donne and piano with Jeb Patton and Jacob Sacks in New York. He has worked as pianist/musical director for Salena Jones and Ray Quinn and has written orchestrations for Emilia Mårtensson, Norma Winstone and Atila Huseyin. He is also the unofficial house pianist at the Royal Albert Hall.
Will has lived in Freiburg, Germany since 2018, where he works with the Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra, leads the Jazzhouse Youth Orchestra and has founded a new piano trio. He also plays with great international musicians such as Bänz Oester, Cecile Verny and Pape Dieye. In 2022 he recorded his latest release, an album of jazz settings of the poetry of Philip Larkin with the legendary singer Norma Winstone.
TONY KOFI
Tony Kofi is a British Jazz multi-instrumentalist born of Ghanaian parents, a player of the Alto, Baritone, Soprano, Tenor saxophones and flute. Having ‘cut his teeth’ in the “Jazz Warriors” of the early 90’s, award-winning saxophonist Tony Kofi has gone on to establish himself as a musician, teacher and composer of some authority.
As well as performing and recording with Gary Crosby’s “Nu-Troop” and “Jazz Jamaica”, Tony’s playing has also been a feature of many bands and artists he has worked/recorded with, which include “US-3” The World Saxophone Quartet, Courtney Pine, Donald Byrd, Eddie Henderson, The David Murray Big Band, Sam Rivers Rivbe Big band, Andrew Hill Big Band, Abdullah Ibrahim, Macy Gray, Julian Joseph Big band, Harry Connick JR, Byron Wallen’s Indigo, Jamaaladeen Tacuma’s Coltrane Configurations and Ornette Coleman.

This is a fully seated event. Seats are not numbered and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
Please note the Jazz Club is situated in the basement of the Duke of Hamilton Pub and access is via a number of stairs. The nearest toilets are situated on the 1st floor of the Pub.
