The Hampstead Jazz Club presents the debut show by TUCAN – The Jazz-Fusion collective who are navigating through the journey which is the exponentially growing UK Jazz scene.

Their sound is the musical representation of community and togetherness, with members of the band spread out all over the UK and all over the world. In addition to the injection of inspiration from West-African dance music, and South American rhythms and melodies.

TUCAN’s fresh take on Jazz sees their music incorporating Soul, Funk and RnB, drawing inspiration from the likes of Snarky Puppy, Robert Glasper and Ashley Henry. As TUCAN solidify their focus on bringing people together, their live shows have blossomed through their energetic and captivating performances, often leaving the audience moving and grooving.

TUCAN

Formed in 2017, the band met on the music programme at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. Since then, the band has had a short but exciting history, with a gig supporting Chicago Jazz Drummer, ‘The Beat Scientist’ Makaya McCraven, and the debut release of their single ‘Flight‘, recorded and filmed at the famous Abbey Road Studios.

The band enjoyed a successful first year of recording, and gigging, playing four headline shows, and being able to sell out two, at both the famous Cavern Club, and at their headline show at the 2UBE XTRA Festival, gaining the attention of the Liverpool’s Jazz scene, even being described as “Contemporary jazz-funk of the Snarky variety.

TUCAN now look to immerse themselves in the London and UK Jazz scenes with their monthly gig night ‘The Nest Session’ at Brick Lane’s 91 Living Room, a debut EFG London Jazz Festival Performance in November 2022, and a headline sold out stage at Liverpool International Music Festival (LIMF) in July 2022. TUCAN now look to explore and push the boundaries of their music and performances, by taking their larger compositions, and bringing them down to more intimate line-ups and venues.
