Tristan - "The Spice of Five" Back on Tour
Saturday 1st February 2020
JAZZ, FUNK & SOUL
“We give you a recipe to dance. A tasty soup with each band member adding the right spice or ingredient to make this all really happening. But don’t expect a rough cut of what we used to be. All of us are perfectionists. We dare to be slick at times, and heavy when it is appropriate. So, do crank it up loud and groove along with us!” – TRISTAN
Due to the popular sound by the mellifluously vibrant Dutch Jazz/Funk/Soul band ‘TRISTAN’, Hampstead Jazz Club are proud to host their return to what promises to be another smash sell-out event!
Following a multiple of plaudits since their first album ‘The Spice of Five’ have been making huge waves in the real world of music, where their hallmark sound has won them accolades which include ‘Best album’ release and ‘Album of the Week’ award at Jazz FM and across many Radio stations.
This return performance brings you their best works to date by cranking up those funk grooves, infectious arrangements and signature jazz/funk sound.
Tristan’s music can be best described as feel-good vintage Acid Jazz, with the energy, vibe and sounds of today, performed by some of the best contemporary pop/jazz musicians from Europe.Their trademark of solid grooves and tight punchy arrangements of funky rhythm guitars and outstanding rhythm section is pure class against the stunning vocals of singer Evelyn Kallansee. It will take you back to that great warm and soothing sound of the 70’s, with a fresh breeze of influences from the present.
While the high energy grooves of Tristan encompasses musical similarities to bands such as Tower of Power, Snarky Puppy, or classic Acid Jazz acts such as Incognito and the Brand New Heavies, Tristan’s exquisite high quality of compositions and arrangements is what makes this group stand out from their contemporaries with their signature musicianship.
“Tristan were an absolute blast! They nailed it right from the first number, impressing the audience with their exemplary musicianship and original compositions” – Steve Wright, Jazz Curator, Colchester Arts Centre Jazz Club, UK
“Tristan are no mere copyists – They have their own sound, they offer real variety and in singer Evelyn Kallansee they have a unique and energized voice” – JazzFunkSoul
“an uncompromising recipe of Tower of Power’s funky jazz hits, Toto’s slick pop/R&B crossover arrangements and Steely Dan’s intricate pop/jazz melodies.”- SoulTracks
