Franco-American pianist Tom Sochas and his trio return to Hampstead Jazz Club premiering new Mountain-inspired music from their upcoming album ‘Facing North’, composed in the arctic circle on a small island off the coast of Norway. Not to be missed!

The show will feature Tom on piano and electronic textures, Theo Malka-Wishart on double bass and Filippo Galli on drums. The music will also be accompanied by mountain related projections and animations. Expect a blend of delicate contrapuntal melodies, spacious Scandi soundscapes as well as harder hitting grooves!

TOM SOCHAS

Tom Sochas is a Franco-American pianist born and raised in Paris, France and Nairobi, Kenya. Tom moved to London in 2011 and began to compose for quartet and brainchild ‘Phoenician Blinds‘. The contemporary jazz quartet has kept very busy and released three critically acclaimed albums as well as keeping a busy touring schedule in the UK and Europe.

Tom’s love of lyrical and melodic music, hard hitting post-bop and his passion for western classical music has led him to developing a unique sound, itself materialising into his first solo EP, ‘You could hear the bird sing’. Following it’s success Tom Sochas released his debut trio album ‘The Sorcerer‘ on Khumbu Records in April 2022. Tom was awarded the Do It Differently grant from Help Musicians UK to support the release of this record.

Tom and the trio have had the pleasure of touring this record and performing to sold-out audiences in some of Europe’s greatest jazz clubs including Ronnie Scott’s in London, Birdland in Hamburg, Sunset Sunside in Paris, Philly Joe’s in Tallinn, Sala Clamores in Madrid, The Jazz Bar in Edinburgh and Milano Jazz Club in Barcelona amongst others. Tom was very recently awarded a another grant by Help Musicians UK and is set to release a new mountain inspired trio album Facing North in November 2024.

Seats are not numbered and you will be seated at available tables. Please note tables seat 4 people, so for bookings of less than 4 people, you will be seated and share a table for 4.

This is a fully seated event.  Seats are not numbered and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.

Please NOTE, there is NO food served in the Jazz Club, there is a bar for drinks. We advise booking a table for dinner at the Duke of Hamilton upstairs at least 1hr before show-time – Book Here 

Please note the Jazz Club is situated in the basement of the Duke of Hamilton Pub and access is via a number of stairs. The nearest toilets are situated on the 1st floor of the Pub.
