The Hampstead Jazz Club presents saxophonist Matt Telfer. Matt will take you on a humorous and heart felt journey of the very best in jazzy blues with his talented band, Them Dirty Blues. This five piece takes it’s name from the breath-taking 1960 album by The Cannonball Adderley Quintet, paying homage to the rich and lyrical variations that Jazz Blues has to offer while touching on it’s Gospel origins.

You’ll be hearing arrangements of jazz blues standards from, of course, the one and only Cannonball AdderleyWes Montgomery and Bobby Timmons.

With the incredible hard swinging drums of Hungarian drummer Gabor Dornyei and the fast fingers of organ player Christian Prior, this is a gig not to me missed!

Originally from the West Midlands, saxophonist Matt Telfer moved to London in 2000 to pursue his passion for music. Matt first picked up the sax at the age of 20. He was originally self taught but was later able to develop his playing by studying with some of the world’s leading saxophonists including Tim Garland, Phill Woods and Bob Mintzer.

Aware that he’d come to the instrument a little later than most Matt committed all of his time to practice. Matt very quickly became a prominent figure on the London jazz scene and received sponsorship from Yanagisawa saxophones and Vandoren reeds. This led to a 9 year residency at the Spice of Life in Soho where Matt hosted the Vando Jazz Jam. This prestigious Jam session was run in collaboration with the Vando Jam, Paris and New York. Here Matt worked with musicians such as Jim Snidero, Baptiste Herban, Jim Mullen, Dave O’Higgins, and Nigel Price. With the success of the Vando Jam, Matt went on to host Friday nights at The Pizza Express Jazz Club, Soho. Here Matt played with featured guests such as Omar, Rick Braun and Chuck Loeb.

Matt’s own band ‘ Blakey’s Boys’ a tribute to Art Blakey has enjoyed huge success with performances in The EFG London Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scotts and many other jazz clubs in the UK and in Europe.
