Hampstead Jazz Club Presents – Planck Walker

Planck Walker are a London-based jazz quintet consisting of students from both the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music. Some of their generation’s most exciting young improvisers, they have already performed at Ronnie Scott’s, the Vortex Jazz Club and 91 Living Room as part of their busy schedule. The band’s music draws heavily upon the American jazz tradition, but they are equally inspired by twentieth century classical music and EDM, resulting in a unique sound which is truly at the midpoint between several contemporary idioms.

For their debut at the Hampstead Jazz Club, Planck Walker will present two sets of music, striking an irresistible balance between composed and improvised material. Combining both their original tunes, which draw on contemporary American influences such as Aaron Parks, Ben van Gelder and Joel Ross, with compositions by the great jazz composers, including Wayne Shorter, Benny Golson and George Shearing.

This night will showcase an unwavering commitment to spontaneity and artistic freedom. This is music that really can go anywhere, whether it be burning swing, fiery Latin, dark contemporary classical or visceral electronica.

Sam Norris- Alto sax
