Hampstead Jazz Club  in partnership with PizzaExpress Live , proudly present London’s very own guitar sensation Michael John Ross and his all-star trio, performing the music of the great guitarists from the golden era. Including BB King, Chet Atkins, Wes Montgomery, Chuck Berry and many more. Two sell-out shows at Hampstead Jazz Club earlier this year saw the debut of this original and compelling musical journey brought to life by some of London’s finest musicians. It is now time to bring the show to a wider audience.

The 1950’s blurred the lines between Jazz, Blues, Country and Gospel, reshaping music forever. Ross delivers a stylish tribute to some of the world’s most iconic guitarists as he crosses genres with impeccable skill and musicality.

In 2019 he co-wrote and produced the stage show Seven Decades – the story of the electric guitar, along with long-time collaborator Phil Hylander, the late Rocky Oldham and Bill Curbishley, legendary manager of The Who. The show became the first ever live performance of its kind to be commissioned by The V&A, leading to a run of sell out shows at the museum. Described by the Sunday Times as “A hugely impressive live music spectacular”. In the same year the show performed at The Goodwood Revival Festival and headlined The Guitar Show at Olympia.

Michael’s latest project sees him line up with a much smaller band in an intimate setting, allowing him to hone his skills on the most intriguing and musically challenging decade of them all, the 1950’s. Continuing from the decade’s forefathers such as Django Reinhardt, T Bone Walker and Charlie Christian, Michael seamlessly weaves in and out of song and story, complimented by the soulful voice of rising UK vocalist Chess Galea.

Michael John Ross emerged on London’s soul, funk and acid jazz scene in the late 90’s before establishing himself as one of the UK’s top session players. His career has seen him work with the likes of Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason, Peter Green from Fleetwood Mac, Simon Le Bon and Joan Jett to name a few. His recording credits include film scores, BBC dramas and theatre. Michael is a renowned guitar teacher, author and university lecturer, specialising in technical studies and artist case studies.
