Anna Ross

Women’s Words, Sisters’ Stories:  Anna Ross celebrates the divas who wrote their own songs and told their own stories.  Compositions by Peggy Lee, Betty Carter, Billie Holiday, Norma Winstone and Abbey Lincoln are heard in new arrangements by the Alex Webb Trio, as well as classics from the Great American Songbook.

Born in London and raised in Newcastle, singer-songwriter Ross has spent the last decade as Duran Duran’s backing vocalist, singing to tens of thousands of people in sold-out arena tours around the world.  Previously a backing vocalist for Lisa Stansfield, Stereophonics, Tom Jones, Sting, and Tina Turner, she has also released material under her own name and is now exploring her love of jazz with pianist/arranger Alex Webb.

Alex Webb

Alex Webb, musical impresario and leader of this hugely impressive trio, works in diverse ways in the jazz world, creating collaborations, words-and-music shows, theatre productions and recordings.  His recent album ‘The Last Bohemians’, a collaboration with vocalist David McAlmont, received 4-star reviews in the Times, Mojo, Jazzwise and Jazz Journal.

As a prolific songwriter, arranger and pianist, Alex’s songs have been recorded by jazz singers China Moses, Mina Agossi, Sandra Nkake, Liane Carroll, Allan Harris and Alexander Stewart, among others. His show ‘Cafe Society Swing’ has enjoyed several theatre runs in London and one in New York, where he received the New York Times ‘Critic’s Pick’; he has also co-authored a musical about the life of Lena Horne.
