Leo Richardson one of HJC’s favourites, returns for another compelling show, featuring the iconic music releases on Impulse! Records with music from John Coltrane to Duke Ellington and more!

This crowd pleaser will be a sure sell-out so early booking is advisable!

Impulse! Records was established in 1960 by Creed Taylor, a forward thinking record label that later became known as “the house that Trane built“. Along with Blue Note, Impulse! Records was very well known for its aesthetic design and photographs, of course along with the seminal music releases that they continuously released.

Tonight the trio will be celebrating this music and paying homage to the greats including John Coltrane, Oliver Nelson, Duke Ellington, Sonny Rollins Stanley Turentine and Michael Brecker. Leo will be joined by organ maestro Liam Dunachie and the incomparable David Ingamells on drums.

Leo Richardson is widely recognised to be one of London’s leading Jazz Tenor Saxophonists. He is best known for his honest, straight-head, contemporary hard-bop style and regularly hosts the Late Late Show at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club with his own quartet.

His most significant influences include John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Dexter Gordon, Horace Silver and Art Blakey.

The recent release of Leo’s follow up album ‘Move’, continues to make waves, alongside his notable performance and recording credits for artists which include: Jamie Callum, Gregory Porter, The BBC Proms, The Temptations, The Four Tops and The Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra.

I have known Leo Richardson for several years and in my view he is destined to become one of the finest jazz tenor saxophone players this country has produced. He has a rare natural talent” – Alan Skidmore

Leo is a “sax player capable of projecting to audiences in the manner of Joshua Redman” – Sebastian Scotney
