Jo Harrop and Marcus Bonfanti join forces to bring an early explosive start to 2023 with a delicious melange of blues and jazz to The Hampstead Jazz Club & music from the recently acclaimed album “The Heart Wants”!

This special evening offers a rare chance to see two shining lights of the UK music scene, explore the space between their two unique voices, deep and smokey, like aged oak barrel whiskey.

Jo & Marcus duetted on the song, ‘Life Inside’ from Jo’s 2021 released album “The Heart Wants“, which sparked a collaboration between them.  This, plus their shared love of artists such as Tom Waits, Bill Withers, Leon Russell, Bonnie Raitt, Billie Holiday & Aretha Franklin, inspired an idea to put together a live show, of jazz and blues music that tells stories of life, love, desire & the human condition.

The Heart Wants” features in the December pick of  ‘Jazz Album of The Year 2022,‘, in both the Daily Mail and The Mirror, propelling Jo and her extraordinary voice to greater heights in 2023 and beyond.

Thrice British Blues award winner, Marcus Bonfanti, was nominated for Jazz FM’s Best Blues Act 2021, and performs to sell-out audiences world wide, in addition to having his original songs play listed on BBC Radio 2 & BBC Radio 6 music.

JO HARROP

Following the release of her debut original album “The Heart Wants” and launch performance at Cadogan Hall 5 Nov 2021,  the album continues to build momentum and 5 star reviews from industry experts, including making the recent “Jazz Album of 2022” selection in the press. Jo is set to take this magnificent album on tour in 2023 as the world wants to hear more of this evocative voice.

Written and recorded over the last year when the world came to a sudden standstill in the wake of the pandemic, “The Heart Wants” is an album about love and life, about losing and then finding oneself in the silence after the applause has faded away.

Beyond the mellifluous perfection of her chocolate and cream voice, there is always a beautifully bruised intimacy at the very heart of Jo Harrop’s music. It’s almost as if she’s staring directly into your soul when she sings. This may only be her second LP, yet she sounds as if she’s already lived a thousand lifetimes.

The extraordinary voice of Jo Harrop, beautiful, sublime, spine-tingling – what a voice!” Jo Whiley 2021

Jo Harrop is a rising name on the jazz scene today, her most recent albums being played on Jo Whiley’s radio 2 show, Iggy Pop’s BBC Radio 6 music show, and playlisted on Jazz FM, as well as gaining 4 and 5 star reviews in the Guardian, Jazzwise, The Mirror, Hifi Choice and more.

“Jo Harrop is a very fine jazz singer… a superb and unimaginably good vocalist ” – Iggy Pop, BBC Radio 6 Music
