Jazz FM Classic Album Playback series in partnership with the Hampstead Jazz Club

Ian Shaw to recreate songs from the classic album ‘Baltimore’ (1978) by Nina Simone

For three Sundays in August, Jazz FM will broadcast a programme during their Sunday 9-10pm slot called “Classic Album Playback”.

Hosted by journalist Jonathan Wingate, each week the show concentrates on a pivotal classic jazz album that has stood the test of time. Recorded in front of a ‘Live Audience’ at the Hampstead Jazz Club, Jonathan and a panel will play tracks from the album and talk about them and give opinions on why the album, as a collection of tracks, worked to create the classic work we know of today.

The panel would be made up of fellow journalists and musicians, those in the know who can add a layer of knowledge and understanding that will feed the inquisitive mind of our audience.  Following the playback, the featured musicians would re-create a number of tracks from the classic album and perform a mini-set.
