Thursday 21st November 2019

Vinyl Playback:  7.00pm-8.00pm

Jazz FM in partnership with the Hampstead Jazz Club an official venue for the EFG London Jazz Festival Week 14-24 November 2019 is proud to present “Classic Vinyl Playback” evenings at The Hampstead Jazz Club.

During London Jazz Festival week, before selected live performances at HJC, Jazz FM’s Nigel Williams will playback a classic Jazz Vinyl selected by the artist who will give an insight on the selection and how it’s influenced their career.

A first for Jazz FM and HJC, this format of evening will make its debut at London Jazz Festival week.

Jo Harrop talks about her love affair with the album: John Coltrane Quartet – Ballads

I fell in love with this vinyl – Ballads from the John Coltrane Quartet.

I love singing ballads and was blown away by a whole album just of tender torch songs – I played it over and over again.
Favourite track ‘Say It Over & Over Again’ (Frank Loesser and Jimmy McHugh).  This song does have words but I’ve only heard Kurt Elling sing it.

The quartet includes pianist McCoy Tyner who actually wrote one of my favourite love songs ‘You taught my heart to sing’ with Jimmy Garrison on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. Simple and beautiful.

I love it that a musician recorded a whole album of just ballads and was inspired to do the same.

To attend, simply book a ticket for the main live show.

Please note, The Club is not licensed to allow access to Children under the age of 16 after 9pm, so for evening performances, please do not book tickets for children under the age of 16. Children aged 16 and above are welcome at any time.

This is a fully seated event.  Seats are not numbered and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, as are seats at tables. Where a table is available and the booking is for less than 4 persons, you will be seated and share a table for 4.
