Jazz FM’s Classic Album Playback series in partnership with the Hampstead Jazz Club. Mama Terra recreate songs from the classic album Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock. This evening with form two episodes of Jazz FM’s Classic Album playback series that will broadcast on the station throughout September on Saturday/Sunday nights at 9pm. 

Hosted by jazz legend Claire Martin OBE, each week the programme concentrates on a pivotal classic jazz album that has stood the test of time. Recorded in front of a discerning audience at PizzaExpress Holborn, a panel led by Ian Shaw will play tracks from the album and discuss their opinions on why the album as a collection of tracks worked to create the classic work we know of today, adding a layer of knowledge and understanding that will feed the inquisitive mind of the audience. Following the playback, Alex will re-create a number of tracks from the classic album, performing a mini-set, which you can hear as part of the broadcast. 

Mama Terra

The new Scottish jazz/soul ensemble from the minds of CAFOLLA & WISZNIEWSKI, draws from an inner journey of discovery, it’s a Jazz/Spiritual/Soul roots based record with influences from John & Alice Coltrane, Nina Simone, McCoy Tyner & Miles Davis to Kamasi Washington, Erykah Badu & Robert Glasper.

Debut album ‘The Summoned’ features guest Brooklyn rhythm section of Derek Nievergelt (Terence Blanchard) , Evan Pazner (Lee Fields) & special guest NYC trumpet soloist Jeremy Pelt.  Released July 7th 2023 on Acid Jazz Records.  Debut single ‘Ruptura’ went straight in at number one on the ITunes Jazz chart, playlisted for 6 consecutive weeks and single ‘A Mind Supreme’ was track of the week on Jazz FM & has been on their A playlist for 4 consecutive weeks.
