PizzaExpress Live in partnership with the Hampstead Jazz Club proudly presents soul jazz guitarist Chris Standring returning to Pizza Express Jazz Club for the first time in Holborn celebrating the success of his latest album ‘Wonderful World’. Performing music from his extensive 14 album catalogue, Chris brings to the stage a world class band and an energetic live show.
We are pleased to announce that one of the most exciting and significant soul musicians on the modern British stage Tony Momrelle will be a Special Guest with Chris Standring for all shows.
After establishing himself as a popular mainstay in the contemporary urban jazz genre with infectious R&B driven hits like “Cool Shades” (from Velvet), “Hip Sway” (title track from his 2000 album), “Ain’t Mad Atcha” (2003’s Groovalicious) and “I Can’t Help Myself” (from 2006’s Soul Express), Standring decided it was time to push his muse into offbeat and uncharted territory. His appreciative fans, radio programmers and critics fully embraced Blue Bolero (whose single “Bossa Blue” became the #1 Billboard Contemporary Jazz Track of the Year).
Standring continued radio chart success with his 2012 Electric Wonderland album, scoring a #1 hit with “Oliver’s Twist”, then “Sneakin’ Out The Front Door” also reached #1 from his 2014 album Don’t Talk, Dance. 2016 brought Chris Standring’s tenth solo album (titled Ten) spawning two billboard #2 hits “Ready Steady, Flow” and “Soul Vibration” and #1 with “Like This, Like That”.
On March 5th 2017 Standring recorded a live album with rhythm section and orchestra at Cadogan Hall in Chelsea, London with special guest star Mica Paris. The album, Live In London was also videotaped.
A Best Of Chris Standring Remixed album was released 2019, featuring some of Chris’s most popular compositions realized in a whole new way. The album, released on vinyl for the first time, was launched at Hampstead Jazz Club in London.
A notable music producer in his own right, he has also scored five #1 Billboard hits for other artists.
Chris Standring’s 12th solo album Sunlight, released 2018, featured the legendary pianist Bob James, vocalist Mica Paris and a host of some of the finest players in the world. Real Life came April 2020 and spawned two number 1 Billboard hit singles with “Is There A Doctor In The House?” and “Shake You Up”.
On September 3rd 2021 Chris released an ambitious orchestral/trio project entitled Wonderful World, recorded at Abbey Road featuring many notable jazz superstars. The project has received rave reviews worldwide.
In a music career spanning 20+ years, he has performed with some of the greatest artists in the world: Incognito, Gloria Estefan, Céline Dion, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Chaka, Sade, Gary Barlow, Andrea Bocelli, Gwen Stefani, Robert Palmer and many more. In Autumn 2016 he supported the legendary Earth, Wind & Fire on their sold-out UK tour. His acclaimed debut album ‘Keep Pushing’ was released in 2015 – an infectious mingling of eighties-inspired synths, jazzy keys, classic piano and soaring soul vocals. Strong mainstream and regional radio support for the album culminated in four BBC Radio 2-playlisted singles and ongoing airplay across Europe. Momrelle’s ‘Keep Pushing Tour’ has flown world-wide, playing to sold-out audiences at venues and festivals in the UK, Australia, Italy, Germany, Russia and France. Notable media appearances in 2017/8 included an intimate duet with Jools Holland live on the much-loved BBC One show ‘Later with Jools Holland’, as well as distinguished collaborations with the Guy Barker Orchestra and Big Band for BBC Radio 2 . His sophomore album ‘Best Is Yet To Come’ released to critical acclaim in 2019.
