Esther Bennett is one of the London jazz scene’s most highly respected and widely loved singers and The Hampstead Jazz Club is pleased to present this debut performance. She juxtaposes sensitivity with a sparkly sense of humour,  her song delivery leaving audiences utterly compelled.

Be prepared for a wonderfully textured, well crafted and interesting mix tonight from three of London’s most experienced jazz artists!

Featuring Terence Collie on piano and a double bassist (tbc), Esther will be performing original material from recently released recordings and from a new recording due to be released later this year, as well as some highly individual interpretations of a few very well known jazz standards.

Esther’s debut album “Just in Time” was produced by multi award winning singer Ian Shaw and launched at London’s 606 Club in 2005.

Since then she has carved out a prestigious career as a jazz singer performing extensively in major venues in and around London across the country and in Europe.

During lockdown, Esther got to work and with pianist Terence Collie and various other well reputed jazz musicians from the London jazz scene, wrote, recorded and produced an EP of completely original material called “Safe Places

Another release during this period was an EP featuring the songs of the late saxophonist & composer Duncan Lamont,  whom Esther had worked with for almost a decade touring “The Duncan Lamont Songbook.”  This touring project included special guest singers including Norma Winstone and the late Tina May, and continues to tour with Duncan Lamont Jnr – who is, like his father, an accomplished saxophonist and flautist.

Both EPs received very favourable reviews and have been performed in tandem at various and reputable jazz venues.

Currently and once again with Terence Collie, Esther is working on another recording of poetry, spoken word and incredibly quirky interpretations of a few very well known and widely performed jazz standards. This recording also features the music of artist and musician Didier Messidoro and is due for release later this year.

Tonight’s performance will feature material from all of these recordings and a few highly original interpretations of jazz classics.

Vocalist Esther Bennett’s many virtues include an incredibly seductive lower register and a winning sense of humourJazz Wise magazine
