Described as “a critically acclaimed debut that’s already garnered comparisons with the greats” (Jazzwise) and “a remarkably mature-sounding trio album” (London Jazz News), the 23 year old pianist, Eddie Gripper, brings his band to Hampstead Jazz Club for the launch of ‘Home’.

The compositions featured on ‘Home’ (written by Gripper during lockdown) encapsulate the warmth of childhood memories and tackle the challenging themes of maturity and grief. Metrically challenging grooves are paired with rich, elegant harmonies, culminating in an outcome that is both provocative and gratifying. Each piece is a journey through time and space – beginning and finishing at a familiar and comforting destination before moving onto new or subtly developed ideas.

Eddie Gripper is an English pianist, composer and educator based in Cardiff, Wales. Born and raised in Oxford, he first moved to Cardiff in 2018 to study under the tutelage of Huw Warren before graduating with First Class Honours from Cardiff University. He has worked as a performer, promoter and producer alongside top musicians in his field. Including: Huw Warren, Iain Ballamy, Laura Jurd, Alex Merritt, Yuri Golubev, Eric Ford and Kevin Glasgow. As a composer, he has collaborated with welsh folk artist, Angharad Jenkins (Calan), exploring the various aspects of folk, jazz and contemporary classical traditions. ‘Hiraeth’, a band featuring Isaac Zuckerman, Daniel Newberry and Ursula Harrison, featured many of his own compositions alongside the work of other band mates, they featured as finalists in the 2022 edition of the International Bucharest Jazz Competition.

“Rising piano talent Eddie Gripper gets Soho swinging with Home album launch” – Tom Spargo (Jazzwise)
