“A night of classic and contemporary interpretations of Ska and Reggae”

Resident acclaimed artist and host of some of The Hampstead Jazz Club’s most iconic events, Ciyo continues to bring the best of the best in live music and diverse music genres to the stage. We are excited to host his recent presentation featuring Steve Harris  ‘The Reggae HeadMaster, for what promises to be an incredible night of iconic ska, rocksteady and reggae music, alongside some of Harris’s original material.

The dynamic vocals of Harris against the brilliant guitar skills of Ciyo will bring you a vibrant classic ska and reggae set from that early era which heralded this infectious musical style and songs.

Harris was bandleader for Laurel Aitken, the Godfather of Ska, for many years. With Freetown as Laurel’s backing band, they toured extensively across Europe and the UK. Steve also appeared in Ska’d by the Music, a film about Symarip, which was released in 2018. Steve has worked with some of the greatest ska and reggae legends, including Alton Ellis, Derrick Morgan, and The Godfather of Ska – Laurel Aitken.

Harris’s album, ‘Shake My Soul, released last year on digital and vinyl with his band ‘The HeadMasters‘, combines Harris’s skill as a lyricist and vocalist and precedes the newly released single ‘Information Highway‘, which is also enjoying significant success and airplay.

‘’A brilliant album – you’ll be amazed!’’ Herdle White, BBC Radio Leicester, August 2018.
