Will Bartlett Trio

The Trio will take you on a musical journey of Jazz standards, contemporary South African and Brazilian Jazz, with compositions from Monk and McCoy Tyner and songs from his latest Philip Larkin album ‘The Soundless Dark’, recorded in 2022 with Norma Winstone and Tony Kofi.

Since winning the BBC Big Band Most Promising Musician in 2001, Will has studied in London with John Taylor, Pete Churchill and Simon Purcell. He then went on to New York and worked with Mike Ledonne, Jeb Patton and Jakob Sacks.

His UK accolades has led him to collaborate and work with virtually every great British Jazz musician, including Norma Winstone, Claire Martin, Soweto Kinch, Jim Mullen, Nigel Price, John Dankworth, Kenny Wheeler, Toni Kofi, Steve Williamson, Peter King, Stan Sulzmann and Jamie Cullum.

He has just released an album of his own sets of poems by Philip Larkin, recorded by the incomparable Norma Winstone.

Now based in Freiburg, Germany, Will has put together a new London Trio for tonight’s gig, playing his familiar mix of originals and standards, both modern and old. This creative line-up find unique harmonies and a deep interplay full of spontaneity and risk-taking. Most importantly they play with the deep swing of the American jazz tradition which ensures every performance is full of energy, excitement and The Blues.
