SARAH L KING
Sarah L King started singing in soul and gospel choirs before emerging as a solo artist. Her unique brand of soulful jazz has caught the attention of critics and fans alike. With her highly-acclaimed debut album ‘Fire Horse‘ (2024), and her second album ‘The Light Ahead‘ due for imminent release (both produced by Claire Martin OBE), King has sharply risen in popularity on the London Jazz circuit with her pure-toned vocals and sophisticated original compositions.
Her music regularly features on Jazz FM including ‘Single Of The Week’, and also on BBC3’s Jazz Requests. Influenced from an early age by her father, a jazz trumpeter and bandleader, King has inherited a good ear for harmonies and a highly intuitive melodic instinct. Fresh from her sold-out EFG London Jazz Festival show at Hampstead, this evening is an exciting chance to see King’s fresh Valentines’ repertoire, exploring songs of love in it’s many forms, alongside witty and heartfelt extracts of letters from unexpected places. King will be joined by her fabulous trio including guest guitarist Fredrik Olsson from Sweden, who formed Sarah’s Stockholm trio and is a giant on the Stockholm jazz scene.
‘King and her band are a great live prospect’ – Kevin Whitlock, Jazzwise
‘King has a most endearing vocal presence, and a wonderful way of phrasing that lifts the lyrics giving them a gravitas and meaning that might otherwise be lost.’ Nick Lea, Jazz Views ‘Thought provoking, tender and sophisticated lyrics set to soulful jazz melodies that are fresh and well crafted’ – Claire Martin OBE
