Lauded US Singer Mike Thornton (USA) makes UK Debut at HJC
Friday 19th July 2019
Tickets: £15.00 Seat
Doors: 7.30pm
Show: 8.00pm-10.00pm
Making his much-anticipated UK debut at Hampstead Jazz Club, we are delighted to welcome critically-acclaimed American jazz singer Mike Thornton.
Although his infectious, finger-snapping style may be reminiscent of old-school crooners like Tony Bennett and Mel Tormé, Mike Thornton swings and sways his way around the notes with the spontaneous agility of an instrumentalist: “A jazz singer’s mission is to cherish the melody, change it up and give the audience something new every night. The magic happens when all of us in the band are grooving together. It’s like a spark. You can feel it in the air.”
Singing with a swagger that leaves audiences in absolutely no doubt that he is very much his own man, it’s no surprise that Thornton is a star on the US jazz scene. It’s only a matter of time before he makes his name on this side of the pond.
‘In the jazz-pop spectrum, Mike Thornton fits somewhere between Mark Murphy and Steve Tyrell – not bad company. He’s a unique performer with a winning versatility.’ Washington Post
