Join us for an evening of captivating Brazilian music with a jazz influence, performed by João Menezes (vocals & guitar), Matheus Nova (bass), and Marcinho Pereira (drums), live from The Hampstead Jazz Club stage.
This dynamic trio brings the rich and diverse rhythms of Brazil—such as Bossa Nova, Samba, Baião, Ijexá, and MPB to life, blending them seamlessly with the improvisational energy of jazz. With each musician contributing their unique artistry, the trio creates a soulful and vibrant sound that captures the beauty and complexity of Brazilian music, while adding their own contemporary touch. Expect an evening full of rhythm, melody, and heart that will transport you to the essence of Brazilian culture.
João Menezes
João Menezes is a Portuguese singer, guitarist, and composer based in London. A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with a degree in jazz guitar, João has a deep passion for blending the rhythmic traditions of Brazilian music with the harmonic and improvisational language of jazz. His music explores styles like Bossa Nova, Samba, Ijexá, Baião, and MPB, all delivered with a sophisticated jazz influence. João’s repertoire also includes jazz standards, blues, rock, soul and pop, showcasing his versatility as both a performer and composer.
Throughout his career, João has studied with some of the most renowned musicians, including Colin Oxley, Mike Outram, John Parricelli, Ife Tolentino, and the legendary Guinga. He has also attended masterclasses by internationally acclaimed artists such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jonathan Kreisberg, Peter Bernstein, and Jeff “Tain” Watts, further refining his artistry and musical expression.
João has performed at many prestigious venues across the UK, including the Hampstead Jazz Club, The Pheasantry (Pizza Express), 606 Club, Vortex Jazz Club, and Cheltenham Playhouse. As a guest artist, he has appeared with the Guildhall Big Band and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Big Band. Internationally, João’s talent has taken him to notable stages such as Teatro São Luiz during the Lisbon Jazz Festival and Cineteatro João Mota in Sesimbra, Portugal. He has also performed at the Lower Barracks in Malta, the Jardins de Luxembourg in Paris, and in Asia at venues like Yuppy Bookstore (Art Reading Café) and Rhythmscape in Taipei, Taiwan.
With his unique ability to fuse Brazilian rhythms and jazz influences, João continues to captivate audiences with his soulful performances and passion for musical innovation. “Joined by the exceptional talents of Matheus Nova on bass and Marcinho Pereira on drums, João’s trio promises an unforgettable night of Brazilian-inspired jazz.”

Seats are not numbered and you will be seated at available tables. Please note tables seat 4 people, so for bookings of less than 4 people, you will be seated and share a table for 4.

This is a fully seated event. Seats are not numbered and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
Please note the Jazz Club is situated in the basement of the Duke of Hamilton Pub and access is via a number of stairs. The nearest toilets are situated on the 1st floor of the Pub.
