In this debut performance at the Hampstead Jazz Club, acclaimed singer-songwriter and pianist-composer Henry Tozer (BBC Young Composer of the Year) presents an intimate evening of song.
Following his series of popular Leonard Cohen themed shows across London, Henry will share a selection of his latest originals alongside songs from his influences such as Cohen, woven together with unique piano improvisations, significant stories and select jazz standards. He will collaborate with award-winning violinist Ezo Sarici, also influenced by jazz, classical and folk, on a journey into a shared reality, unveiling the depths and breadth of human experience. Don’t miss the chance to be one of the first to encounter this wonderful window into his world.
Henry Tozer
Henry Tozer is a London-based British composer, pianist and singer-songwriter. Originally from the Devon countryside, he studied music at Cambridge and moved to New York with his music featuring in soundtracks for ‘Demolition‘ (starring Jake Gyllenhaal) and ‘My Blind Brother‘ (starring Adam Scott).
Since 2016 he has lived and worked principally in London performing with various musicians as well as in many solo shows in local venues including the Polish Hearth Club, Burgh House and St Mary’s Perivale. In 2023 he created and toured the highly-acclaimed sold-out show “The Music of Leonard Cohen”, and began singing with the Idrisi Ensemble, performing rare and unrecorded medieval music (dating back as far as the 4 thCentury) in sold-out concerts in London, Durham Cathedral and Corsica.
Henry also directs the Ealing Gospel Choir and teaches buddhist meditation at the Kadampa Meditation Centre in London, and believes in the transcendent power of music, where subtleties of technique are integrated with deep presence and honesty of delivery.
For Henry, there has always been a living relationship between performing and composing, manifesting most obviously within his piano improvisations, deeply influenced and inspired by the Romantic composers – Chopin, Wagner, Rachmaninov, and Strauss. With a real reverence for the multitudinal colours of extended harmony and voice-leading, along with a great affection for the popular music of the 30s, 40s and 50s which birthed the “jazz standard”, he brings a unique dimension to his songs, which synergise all these influences, including those of 60s and 70s British folk and singer-songwriters. He is set to release his new EP as a singer-songwriter in 2025.
Ezo Sarici
Ezo Sarici graduated this year from her Bachelor’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music with first-class honours, where she now continues her Master’s degree on a Leverhulme Scholarship with prof. Roman Simovic. Ezo’s developing career has taken her to perform as a soloist and chamber music all over Europe in Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey and the Czech Republic to name a few. As a multi-facetted musician, she has taken on a guest principal viola role at the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast and has performed sold-out shows at many renowned jazz venues and festivals like Ronnie Scott’s and the London Jazz Festival.
