Winner of  ‘UK Jazz Act Of The Year’ and ‘Vocalist of the Year’ at the 2022 Jazz FM awards,  Georgia Cécile is at the helm of the new wave of UK jazz artists. She is joined tonight by one “…one of the biggest talents of British jazz piano” (The Guardian) Jamie Safir for a rare and intimate performance showcasing a selection of original material alongside well-known jazz classics.

Georgia Cécile

Growing up in Glasgow’s vibrant jazz scene, Georgia’s grandfather was a renowned jazz pianist and she studied piano first before training as a vocalist and graduating from Edinburgh Napier University with a first class honours in popular music.  Inspired by the likes of Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Nancy Wilson and Duke Ellington, the vocalist and songwriter’s debut album  ‘Only The Lover Sings‘  co-written with her pianist Euan Stevenson, was “one of the most heralded albums of 2021” (Jazzwise) and topped the UK Official Charts -Jazz and Blues category.

Her sound has been described as having retro souljazz and r&b influences, particularly the girl groups of the late sixties.  She perfectly mixes classic songwriting with contemporary lyrics, production and modern vitality, keeping storytelling and impeccable vocals at the forefront.

Following the release of her debut, Cécile supported Gregory Porter on tour, performed with the BBC Concert Orchestra and showcased at SXSW in Austin, Texas.

Championed by Jamie Cullum on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music, Cécile continues to make her mark as one of the finest new voices in the UK, with the Guardian naming her as one of six UK artists to watch this year.   Recent performances included sell-out shows at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Ronnie Scott’s London, Blue Note Milan, Duc De Lombards Paris and Birmingham Symphony Hall.
