The Hampstead Jazz Club presents 19 year old BBC Young Musician of the Year Finalist George Johnson and his quartet.
George Johnson
George has a “really rounded and mature sound” – London Jazz News. His expressive sound on the saxophone alongside his unique compositions, inspired by the likes of Immanuel Wilkins, Joel Ross and Melissa Aldana make him one to watch in the London Jazz Scene.
The George Johnson quartet is one of the most exciting up and coming talents in UK jazz. With Johnson leading the band on tenor saxophone and composing the bands music, they explore many different styles and navigate contrasting atmospheres throughout their sets.
King David Ike-Elechi (drums), Scottie Thompson (piano) and Zaki Osahn (bass) all bring their distinctive sounds to the music to make their collective voice very unique although the bands influence from the current New York Blue Note scene is very clear. Despite this, the sound of the UK is noticeable as together they have played with a wide range of artists such as Geordie Greep, Emma Wrawicz, Eddie Chacon, Orphy Robinson, Anatole Muster, Oreglo and many more. The band have played sold out shows at the Vortex, Next Door Records and their debut show at Notting Hill Arts Club and have growing support throughout london and beyond.
