BEN GOODMAN
Ben’s undeniable jazz sensibility is present in every moment, blending the rich, melancholy harmony of Bill Evans with a more modern rhythmic intensity. After spending the last few months in the US working as an accompanist with leading Broadway singers, he arrives with fresh perspective and sharpened skills at the piano.
The trio’s upcoming show “Three for Five” pays tribute to the legacy of essential quintet recordings that reshaped modern jazz. Inspired by the raw immediacy of ‘My Funny Valentine’ by Miles Davis and the sharp, forward-leaning energy of ‘Page One’ by Joe Henderson.
“Three for Five” explores how the language of the classic quintet can be distilled into the intimacy of a trio setting. Instead of imitating historic lineups, the musicians reinterpret that repertoire’s sense of urgency, interplay, and daring harmonic movement through their own ensemble voice. They will also be drawing on their contemporary influences and combining their refined jazz voice with their love for hiphop culture and the legacy left by J Dilla.
