The Jo Harrop and Artie Zaitz Trio, bring some deeply soulful, blues and jazz to The Hampstead Jazz Club, for a very intimate evening of songs from the American songbooks.
The trio will also be playing some of Jo’s original music from across her released and unreleased albums, including a newly penned tune from Artie and Jo, just recorded in Sunset Sound studio in LA for Jo’s latest creation with Lady Blackbirds producer.
The trio rework Jo’s repertoire into a soulful and bluesy set, with Artie Zaitz’s distinctive sensual guitar playing, Lorenzo’s mellow bass and the smokey jazz tones of Jo’s voice.
Artie Zaitz is swiftly emerging as the UK’s top young guitarist. Exposed to the sounds of jazz from an early age, he studied classical guitar with David Parsons, and later went on to study jazz piano with Andrea Vicari aswell as jazz guitarist David Okumu.
Coming from a family of musicians Artie was exposed to the sounds of jazz from an early age. He developed a particular interest in recordings from the Blue Note label which has had a profound influence on the current material performed with his groups. Artie’s guitar influences include Grant Green, Kenny Burrell, Jim Hall, John Scofield and Charlie Christian. He is equally at home on stage and in the recording studio (Moses Boyd Exodus, The Banger Factory, Pee Wee Ellis, Jordan Rakei, Johnny O’Neal, Gary Crosby, Alex Garnett), performing with various line ups across UK and Europe.
JO HARROP
Having received unanimous critical acclaim for her last three albums, Jo Harrop recently sold out two shows at Ronnie Scott’s and a string of dates around the UK and in New York. Blessed with a chocolate and cream voice that is delicately poised between beguiling sensuality and exquisite fragility, her mellifluous music could melt the hardest of hearts.
“The extraordinary voice of Jo Harrop, beautiful, sublime, spine-tingling – what a voice!” – Jo Whiley 2021
